An Extravaganza of Culinary Creations

September 2019

Chefs and bakers from a variety of restaurants and pastry shops in Metro Detroit served up culinary delicacies at CulEx, the Schoolcraft College Culinary Extravaganza.

It was the 29th CulEx event. Over the years it has evolved to attract 30 sponsors, nearly 800 guests and southeast Michigan’s top restaurants and vendors.

“It is the largest fundraising event for Schoolcraft College and raises funds to support Schoolcraft’s internationally known Culinary Arts Program, [and] student success initiatives to help students overcome obstacles to obtaining their educational goals,” said Dawn Magretta, CFRE, executive director of Development for Schoolcraft College.  “Past funds have supported scholarships, student emergency needs funds, our Veterans Center and other important areas.”

The feedback so far indicates that this CulEx was the best one so far.

“We truly are appreciative of the partnership with Schoolcraft and AlphaUSA,” said Magretta.  “AlphaUSA has been a longstanding supporter of Schoolcraft College including getting kids interested in STEAM careers through Young Inventors for middle school age kids and October’s Manufacturing Day.”

AlphaUSA has continued to take a leadership role, “not only as a funder but as a true workforce and education partner from organizing creative, innovative initiatives that engage and educate our K-12 students on future careers, to serving as manufacturing experts on panel discussions and advisory boards,” noted Magretta.
